What is quiet time?
Quiet time is a personal time to sit before God and presents our needs and petitions. It is a time for us to learn about God by diving into his word, to connect through worship and to hear what He has to say
Why do we need quiet time?
Just the same way as spending time with your friends helps your relationship grow, quiet time helps your relationship with God grow deeper.
How can I improve my quiet time?
In this day and age, we all have extremely busy schedules and lives. Finding time to spend with God may be a challenge. But just like you would schedule a call with one of your friends, or time to catch up on your favorite shows, you’ll need some time with God. If you don’t already, block out a time of day when you can spend with God. It doesn’t have to be a whole hour, but depending on your schedule.
REMOVE THE DISTRACTIONS- It easy to get distracted. We get a notification from WhatsApp get on an endless spiral on TikTok, or get derailed by Instagram reels. Remove all distractions that may keep you from spending your quality time with God
KEEP A JOURNAL- Having a journal may help in your quiet time. It will help you write down what God is speaking to you. Its also a good way to express your feelings to God, by translating some of your feelings, fears and hopes into words. And finally, Journals are a way to help you reflect on the faithfulness of God. You can get a journal from a variety of places and stores. You could also buy a notebook and use it for that. You’re not limited to words! You can also draw, color, whatever God stirs your heart to do.
PLAY SOME WORSHIP MUSIC- I have found that playing some worship music helps focus your attention on God.
Did Jesus ever have quiet time?
Jesus had a lot of quiet time. Over and over in the Gospels, we see Jesus’ retreat to a quiet place to spend time with His Father
And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.
Matthew 14:23
And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.
Mark 1:35
In these passages we see Jesus withdraw to quiet places to commune with God. Even when Jesus was preaching and ministering to others he had intentional time set aside to be with his father.
