Identity can be defined as how you see yourself and what defines you. So many times we struggle with trying to figure out who we are and what defines us. When you are a Christian, we receive a new identity in Jesus. This does not mean we lose ourselves but become whole new people defined by His woes and His truth. So what does God's word say about who we are in Him?
YOU ARE A NEW CREATION
When you say yes to God and let Him come into your life you become a new creation in Him. How beautiful it is to know the old is gone and the new is here!
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
2nd Corinthians 5:17
YOU ARE SAVED
Jesus made a huge sacrifice on the cross to save us from sin, death and our old human nature.
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
Romans 10:9-10
YOU ARE CHOSEN
God chose you and handpicked you. In God not only are you loved unconditionally but He picked you (yes you reading this) not because of your performance or anything, but because he loves you.
But even before I was born, God chose me and called me by his marvelous grace. Then it pleased him to reveal his Son to me so that I would proclaim the Good News about Jesus to the Gentiles.
Galatians 1:15-16
YOU ARE FORGIVEN
No matter how ugly and shameful your past, God wants you to remember that you are forgiven. Jesus paid the price that God's justice demanded for sin and he took it all on himself. As a believer you now have a clean slate!
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you.
Ephesians 4:32
YOU ARE REDEEMED
When you accept Jesus you become one with him. The sacrifice of God has released you from the hands of all the evil that may have once controlled you and owned you. God looks at you and does not see your past but only sees the wonderful future ahead for you.
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace
Ephesians 1:7
When we put our faith in God we have a new identity in Him. The moe time we spend with God in prayer and in His word the more we understand Him and understand what He has called us for. You will also find out more on what God has declared your identity in Him to be.
Stay in Him.
